Jim Gibbons gave a high energy and very informative presentation on Andrew Carnegie last night. We started at the beginning of Carnegie's life in Scotland which Gibbons described as "dirt poor'. The Carnegie family came to the USA when Andrew Carnegie was 12 years old. It was very fascinating to learn of his meteoric rise to the top. Carnegie believed in helping people to better themselves. He had given away 90% of his wealth by the end of his life to foundations, colleges, and charities. His emphasis was on funding libraries, promoting world peace, scientific research, and educational opportunities. The audience really enjoyed Mr. Gibbons!
