We had 4 participants at the Kokedama demonstration. Karel Kaufman gave us an informative presentation about the origins of kodedama, how to make one, and how to take care of it once you get it home in the Drake Family - Heartland Bank Community Room. Then, we went to the Activity Room where Karen Kaufman-Dickson and Karel Kaufman instructed us in creating over very own kokedama to take home. We all had fun mixing the water and the special soil together to create a moist ball. If you have ever made mud pies, then you can relate to what it was like. Then we made a hole in the ball, stuck in the plant, covered it with moss, and tied it all up with string. Where else but the library would you get to play in the mud, make something free to take home, and then not even have to clean up the mess? Thank you Karel and Karen for a great demonstration! If you missed the fun, make sure to sign up next time for the Master Gardener/University of Illinois Extension Office presentations!
