Civil War Fathers, world War II Sons Presentation by Tim Pletkovich

Last Thursday (December 7) local author, Tim Pletkovich gave a wonderful presentation on his book, Civil War Fathers, Sons of the Civil War in World War II.  Mr. Pletkovich is a former middle school teacher from Peoria.  The idea started as a class project of interviews with World War II veterans who had Civil War fathers.   A group of the students really became enthralled and dedicated to the project, corresponding regularly with the veterans, staying after school several days a week to work on it, and developing friendships with the veterans.  One of the veterans was featured in a National Geographic episode and that led to Mr. Pletkovich combining the stories together into the book.  Mr. Pletkovich has a very personable, natural speaking style and great sense of humor that you can imagine would work very well as a teacher in a classroom setting.  He entertained us for almost two hours (but it didn't feel like two hours) with stories of writing the book and also the stories of these special World War II veterans who had a father that served in the Civil War.  We didn't have a very large crowd but we had a lot of interest and enthusiasm.  Thank you very much, Tim Pletkovich and thank you to those who attended.

We hope to have Mr. Pletkovich back again next year to talk about his latest book, Nuns, Nazis, and Notre Dame.  The library will have a copy soon for our patrons to check out.

And at almost every adult presentation, we have a raffle drawing.  Roger Bogner won a 1/2 pound of assorted candies from the Minonk Chocolate Factory in Minonk, Illinois.   He was even kind enough to share them with the rest of the audience!
