The library has added a new tab to its website, 'Home Schooling Resources'. Under this tab, you can find links to resources that are helpful to those who may choose homeschooling for their kids this fall. Soon, there will also be a video called 'Homeschool 101' where two homeschool mothers, Heather Kosur, the library board president and librarian Tamara Persic will be discussing homeschool basics, the differences between homeschooling as opposed to at-home-learning or remote learning, and other pertinent topics.
Homeschooling is where the parent is responsible for planning the curriculum and buying all the materials. This is different than 'remote learning' which is an option our school district is offering this fall for parents who choose not to have their kids go to school in-person.
For those new to or just considering homeschooling this fall, we are having an open house on Wednesday, August 5th from 4:30 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. outside at the park by the library. We will have a variety of curricula and resources on display, including resources available through the library. Library staff and local homeschool veterans will also be available to answer questions and offer support. Please join us!
It may be helpful to clarify terms. Homeschooling as we are talking about here means where the parent is responsible for finding the curriculum and providing all the materials. This is different than remote learning which is one of the options provided by the school district if you do not plan on sending your children to school in-person.
