You’ll take home a packet of recipes and diabetes information. ![]() Join us on Tuesday, September 17 at 6 pm for a presentation by Nick Bartholomew of the Illinois Storm Chasers. The presentation is open to all ages but please everyone be courteous to the speaker and the rest of the audience. Please register for this presentation so we can plan the event accordingly. ![]() We had a very good discussion on the book, Soar by Joan Bauer. Everyone really liked it. I think it would be a great book for a young person to read. Our next book is Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project by Jack Mayer. We had a good crowd for the presentation by Candace Summers of the McLean County Museum of History. It was about Lucy Orme Morgan and the Girl's Industrial Home in Bloomington. The audience enjoyed her presentation very much. We gave away a Dairy Queen gift certificate as part of the raffle that we do with our adult presentations. And of course I forgot to take a picture!
Thank you Candace and thank you audience members! Daryl Carlson of the Alzheimer's Association has rescheduled the Dementia Conversations Class for Tuesday, August 27th at 5:45 PM at the El Paso District Library. This is a free class.

The speakers from the McLean County Museum of History's speaker's bureau do a wonderful job with their presentations. We are very lucky that they are willing to come to our small town and talk to us about these interesting historical topics. Please support the library and the McLean County Museum of History by registering for this interesting program. Program Description: Lucy Orme Morgan was a woman who was passionate about social welfare and was active in numerous philanthropic activities throughout her lifetime. However, her passion (and what would become the most distinguishable effort in her life) was the Girl's Industrial Home. Founded in 1889, the Girl's Industrial Home was a place for dependent children who were neglected or had no one to care for them. It was an institution where girls would be taught useful things to prepare them for a life of independence when they were of age. To Lucy, it was her "hobby" to make it "a home and keep it as far as possible from being an institution." For more than 30 years, the Home flourished under her watchful eye. And because of her service to that institution, the board of the Home honored that service by renaming it as "The Lucy Orme Morgan Home" in 1929. ![]() Daryl Carlson of the Alzheimer's Association has rescheduled the Dementia Conversations Class for Tuesday, August 27th at 5:45 PM at the El Paso District Library.
