LIbrary Funding Is at Stake Again
The coming seven weeks are critical in the fight for library funding. The White House released its FY 2021 budget proposal and - for a fourth time in a row - it intends to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), including all funds from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). The administration's new budget not only strips funding from IMLS, but it also brushes aside funding for other library-eligible education programs. ALA has made it easy to email your members of Congress and urge them to publicly oppose cuts to federal library funding. (Only takes a moment!) We are counting on you to send this message to Congress. You can also tweet at your members of Congress about why we must continue to #FundLibraries. Sample tweets are provided for your convenience. We've set Friday, April 17th for Trivia Night 2020. It will start at 6:30 pm.
We will have 7 teams of 8 people and 1 team of individual sign-ups so that makes a total of 8 teams! We don't have room for anymore than that so sign up soon! Free snacks, free drinks, free babysitting = free everything! (Donations are appreciated) Free babysitting will be provided but we ask that the teams give an accurate count of children that need babysitting so we can prepare our babysitters for the stampede! Sign up by calling the library at 527-4360 or stop by the front desk. The theme of our meeting is "Soup du Jour"!
The club members will all prepare a soup recipe and bring it to the library to share. Let us know if you are interested in this club. This Friday, February 7th Randy Duncan will be in costume as President Lincoln at the library to present 'Abraham Lincoln's Love of Books'. The event starts at 6:30 pm.
Adults and children mature enough to sit quietly through a presentation are welcome to attend. Register by calling the library (527-4360) or stopping by the front desk. |
