![]() Ten people attended the Book Discussion of Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverni last night. This was brought to you by the Friends of the El Paso Public Library. Kris Joye made delicious treats for everyone. Gail Bozarth led the discussion. She did quite a bit of research on the life of Elizabeth Keckley. Elizabeth Keckley was born a slave. She paid her way out of slavery. She sewed dresses for Mrs. Lincoln. Mrs. Lincoln may not have been the easiest person to work for but Elizabeth was very graceful and tactful. She was well respected until she wrote her autobiography. She was ripped apart in the press after that for her written portrayal of Mrs. Lincoln. Elizabeth Keckley died in poverty. The group was encouraged to read the original book, Behind the Scenes by Elizabeth Keckley to learn more about her life.
